Still on the RRO? Time to Switch!

Minister Neuforf is making progress on changes to the government oversight of Local Access Fees, lowering what consumers will be paying in the future. New regulations will also help stabilize the volatility in energy rates charged by Alberta’s big generators. We hope he can solve the high distribution delivery fees charged by wire companies like ATCO. There is still much more to do. Will the NDP ride in to rescue consumers?

Are you still using and stuck on the government’s regulated rate option (RRO)? For 79 consecutive months, independent local electricity retailers have been able to offer customers lower rates than RRO. Please don’t wait for our politicians to try to solve the problem. If you want electricity prices lower than the government-regulated rate providers are charging, check out SandstoneEnergy.ca.

Here is something about Sandstone Energy that you probably didn’t know. This privately owned retail business was founded by Madeline Low and Nick Clark, owners of UTILITYnet, a Calgary energy company with roots dating back to 1978. The purpose was to help raise money for the Calgary Public Library Foundation. All net income from selling electricity, natural gas, and Internet through Sandstone Energy is donated to the Calgary Public Library Foundation to help support “My First Bookshelf.” This is a library program in partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. My First Bookshelf provides a new, age-appropriate book to a child every month from birth to age five.

Why continue to buy electricity from the big utilities? Why continue to pay more than necessary? Maybe it is time to switch over to a local company that is giving back to the community.
