Sandstone Energy: Powering Literacy with Every Bill

In 2017, Madeline Low and Nick Clark, founders of UTILITYne, launched Sandstone Energy as a philanthropic endeavour. They committed to a ten-year gift of all profits earned on the retail sale of electricity by Sandstone Energy to the Calgary Public Library Foundation.

The monthly contributions support the My First Bookshelf program in partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This initiative provides new, age-appropriate books to children from birth until their fifth birthday—delivered directly to their homes. Over the last several years, over 100,000 books have been delivered to children in Calgary.

Today, we proudly support a new 50/50 raffle with all proceeds going directly toward the Calgary Public Library Foundation’s highest-priority needs—supporting essential programs, resources, collections, and spaces serving Calgarians daily.

But we’re not stopping there—Sandstone Energy is doubling its monthly donation for April, amplifying our impact on early childhood literacy.

We are on track to donate $100,000 to the My First Bookshelf program by the end of 2025, and you can help us surpass this milestone. By choosing Sandstone Energy for your electricity and natural gas needs, you directly contribute to this vital cause. The more customers who sign up, the more we can give back—helping ensure that more children in Calgary can access books that inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Simply paying your utility bill supports the growth of Calgary’s libraries. It’s a small choice that makes a big difference. Join us in powering our community’s future—one book at a time.

Support the 50/50 draw and take advantage of Sandstone Energy’s current promotional rate of 6.5 cents/kWh; the lowest electricity price on the Alberta market.
